Believe in yourself!
On that day, I couldn’t see my face in the mirror. I could not make eye contact with close ones and even with friends. I wasn’t feeling like having food and talking with anyone. I wasn’t feeling like continuing anymore. I wanted to finish everything on that day. It was the day when I didn’t get any placement through my college. I studied from one of the best institutes in India, it was a more of a concern. Sometimes, we think that life is tiny. We can’t see anything beyond, and we feel like to end the story. I closed myself in my room and lay on the bed. Anyhow, I didn't have courage to do anything wrong with myself. My mind was constantly making comparisons with my friends who got placement. I was abusing myself within due to that comparison.
My father came, and he knocked on my room. But I couldn’t open the door to avoid eye contact with him. He said, “I got a job at 27”. “I went to the farm and behind buffalos before getting a job,” he continued. My grandfather had buffalos at his time. We belong to a middle-class family. Our grandfather used to work on farms, so my father was supposed to. And they didn’t have any knowledge and guidance regarding education. Somehow, my father struggled to get the education.“I was jobless for around five years after my education,” he said. Later, I opened the door to ensure that I didn’t disrespect him. Still, I wasn’t able to look into his eyes. I didn’t want to listen to him by assuming a typical lecture. But, I didn’t want to disrespect him and his time. I was listening to him. He told me about his journey and how he got a job.
I realized he had a more tough struggle than I. He didn’t have a way to find guidance. He didn’t have the money to purchase the books despite his desire to learn. He had no choice other than to go to the farm and take care of buffalos. There was no money even to attend the exams and interviews. He had to borrow from others to do so. It was challenging for him to get a job despite coming from those conditions. He had nothing to get a job but a desire to never give up on dreams. A dream of improving family condition by earning some money. He worked hard in the farms by not having a choice, and still, he was constantly working towards his desire to get a job. It was a state-government job; it was not less than finding diamonds in 90's.
I made the list of things that I have currently. I realized I have a lot more than him. I have better financial conditions and a better situation than him. I only needed to believe in myself and my hard work. I felt inspired and motivated instantly. It was a tremendous boost for me to start my journey newly. I immediately stood up and decided to work hard again and put in all my efforts. I started working again. I had multiple rejections and failures. I had a lot of ups and downs for nearly one year. But, his story still inspires me to ahead in my life. As a result, I am today at Qualcomm and sitting in my cubicle and writing my story. I feel proud to wear a Qualcomm badge and enter the office.
I learned to never give up and always believe in self and hard work. Have patience and keep working. Our day will come.
